The Usefulness of Ilerniography on the Inguinal Hernia

Abstract
All pediatric surgeons agree that. operation for inguinal hernia should be done as soon as feasible after diagnosis is made, provided that there are no specific contraindications. However, there still is discussion about the management of the unilateral inguinal hernia because of the development of contralteral hernia in several of patients soon after unilateral repair.
For the purpose of better improving the management of inguinal hernia, Ducharme et al. first described herniography, the intraperitoneal injection of contrast material to delineate pathologic lesion in the inguinal canal in 1967.
In this articles, the author analysed 35 cases who recieved the inguinal herniography at surgical department of Han-Il Hospital during 2 years and 6 months from Mar. 1972 to Aug. 1974.
The results showed that herniography was useful in` outlining a contralateral patent processus vaginalis which was not suspected and in avoiding needless and possible harmful operations. The complications of this technic was of no significance.
